Sorry We're Closed.

MaryKateMcDevitt
Sorry, We're Closed.  I love this sign--not only for the lovely lettering but because when I saw it yesterday it helped me to realize that Christmas is almost here and it is time to focus on the real reason I celebrate this special day and to relax and enjoy my family.  The house has been a bee hive of activity for the past two months and I'm ready to stop, breath and reorganize our daily routine.  The tree and gingerbread house have been decorated, cookies are made, presents wrapped (well almost), Christmas music is playing softly in the background and the last of the pendants are made and waiting for the final mail run in the morning.  I couldn't have done it without the help of my family.  My kids have put labels on packages, filled tins with crinkle paper, and my son and husband have helped with the trips to the post office.  It's been a fun but hectic 8 weeks and now it is time to clean up my workroom, close the door and put out the sign.  (Or maybe I will close the door, put out the sign and clean the workroom next week).

Best wishes to you all--Merry Christmas.

Friday Pendant Giveaway - Week 10

This is it--the last giveaway!  Hope you have had a good time.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate.

The week 9 winner is Rebecca!  Congratulations!

Okay, so here are the rules for the last giveaway.  All you must do to enter is follow the steps listed below and let me know your favorite holiday tradition when you leave your comment.  My favorite Christmas tradition is making gingerbread houses with my kids.  We have made them with graham crackers, store-bought kits and have even tried making the gingerbread ourselves (what a mess!).  One year we made a whole street of houses and used coconut as snow.  Great memories I will always cherish.

I will announce the winner next Friday on my blog.  For the final giveaway I am offering a THREE pendant set of your choice, which includes one tin and one chain.  The winner will be able to choose the pendants they want in this set.

Please follow my blog to enter the giveaway and leave a comment below.  Let me know which of the following you did.  Please include a special Christmas tradition from your childhood or something you are doing now with your family.

DIY Fabric Nesting Dolls

Look what I found on Etsy today.  A tutorial on how to make these adorable nesting hand puppets for your kids, grand kids or as a fun gift for the little ones in your life.  I loved how simple they were to make.  If you sew or craft at all I'm sure you will have these supplies on hand.  What a great thing to bring out on a long car ride or while shopping during the holiday season.  Follow the instructions on Handmade Kids How To  or stop by the creators blog to get more inspiration for projects to do with your kids.

Freedom Isn't Free - Veterans Day 2010

In memory of my Grandpa who served in Europe during WWII.  I know few details about where and how my Grandpa served.  He only told me bits and pieces when I would ask him about his service.  Usually he would try and retell something funny that happened, such as his experiences on his ship during the crossing with his fleet.  He would exaggerate how the soup bowls would slide with the waves, causing each soldier to take a spoonful from a bowl as it went by.  I remember him chuckling about that and wondering if it really happened that way or if he was only pulling my leg.  He would talk about the tight bunks and how the ships were positioned in the convoy but nothing of the war itself or the sacrifice that he made.   He mentioned France and how he was stationed at a prisoner of war camp but nothing else.  I am only left with the knowledge that this part of his life stripped him of his youth--it changed his life forever.  Thank you Grandpa for the part you played in protecting our freedom.

To all our military men and woman.  Thank you for your service!  Let us never forget the sacrifices that were made and are continuing to be made today.

Handmade Portraits: DRKENNEDYJONES

Time flies for me this time of year.  I've been so busy making pendants for my lovely customers and didn't have time to put together my usual 'wordless wednesday' post.  This week I wanted to share a Handmade Portrait I found on Etsy.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  I love Hollie's collages--my favorite has to be the last one shown in this video of the boy swinging from a rope into the water.  (Hurry back summer, I miss you already.)  I would love to know which piece of artwork you liked best, so please leave me a comment below.

Something Special From Anna's Trunk

I wanted to share with you some pretty things I recently found on Etsy.  Anna's Trunk is a delightful shop for anyone with a fondness for Jane Austen or Victorian Era gifts.  I received a lovely package in the mail today containing this adorable stocking ornament, in the above photos, and a sweet mini pillow sachet, pictured below.  The stocking ornament was made from the pages of an old copy of Pride and Prejudice, the back of the stocking being the page that describes Bingley and Darcy's friendship and character.

The mini pillow sachet is crafted from soft, creamy muslin and scented lightly with lavender oil.  The back of the pillow is a black and cream toile material--my favorite.  Of course, one of the best lines from the whole book graces the front of the pillow, making this P&P fan very happy.  I was very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend Anna's shop.

Saturday Link Love

Here are a few fun items I found while surfing the web this week.  Enjoy!

Allsorts has a fun Halloweenie freebie for ya!  These letters and numbers could be used for lots of different projects. (LOVE her blog)

I want to try making these cute little caramel apples instead of the traditional ones this year.  Check out the directions on ChristyRobbins blog. They look adorable and much easier to eat.

I have another craft studio to show you over at EverythingEtsy.  If you grew up around material--like I did--you will love this!
