Yummy Cupcakes

The weekend was busy but the highlight was making some yummy cupcakes for my twin girls 17th birthday (my babies are growing up).  I used strawberry cake mix, piped 'whipped' canned frosting on top, added sprinkles and finished it with a cherry on top.  Voila!

For The Love Of Succulents

Succulents have found their way into my heart.  I love these little beauties because they are the easiest plants to care for and perfect for our busy life style.  My daughter first noticed these plants last Summer when she was looking for things to put in a terrarium she was making. What started as a fun diy project evolved into a hobby after making 5 additional terrariums over the next year.  Now she and her sister keep an eye out for interesting containers that would be suitable homes for her growing garden.

Succulents come in a variety of shapes and colors and their thick, fleshy leaves and stems add interesting patterns and textures to the containers.  These plants are originally from arid environments so they store water in their leaves and need very little care to flourish. Off-shoots can be divided and transplanted easily.  We were surprised this year to find that the hen and chicks she used in one of her containers sent up a stalk of whimsical pink flowers.  In my research I discovered that this happens when the hen reaches the end of a three year life cycle, after sending out multiple new plants or 'chicks'.

Make Art. Art Journal.

It's a funny thing to find a piece of art that fits your mood or frame of mind.  I added this drawing to my Art Journal board on Pinterest this week but it works perfectly to describe what it happening in my brain today.

Favorite frozen treat finds on Pinterest this week.  (Left) Mango, Kiwi, Raspberry Pops, (Top) Fruity Summer Striped Ice Cubes and (Bottom Right) Brownie Raspberry Swirl Ice Cream Sandwiches.  I also ran across these cute Ice Cream Printables for a cute Summer themed party.  Stay cool and have a lovely weekend.

What's In Your Garden?

What's in your garden this July?  I'm finally seeing the 'baby fruits' of my labor!  Baby green beans are just so adorable!  We are waiting with anticipation to pick our first tomatoes to go along with the basil we planted.  Green beans will be ready soon along with a few peppers.  If I were totally honest I would  be showing you pictures of the plants that didn't make it.  (But those pictures wouldn't get pinned on Pinterest now would they?)  Our cucumbers were stunted and never grew past a few inches.  The yellow squash have also seen an untimely demise due to the attack of the nasty Squash bugs (duh-dun-dun). Despite all the time, attention and fertilizer I gave to some of these plants we will not be seeing baby veggies from them.  So depressing!

Favorite Pins. Nautical Life.

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by."

July is the month for all things related to the sea.  Don't forget to stop by my shop to take a peek at the nautical jewelry I have created for you this summer.  Sea creatures and treasures abound: Octopus, Turtle, Sand Dollar, Nautical Gift Set, Anchor and Personalized Jewelry.

Saturday Wrap Up

The weather has been perfect this weekend.  Fireworks have been oohed and aahed over, hotdogs and s'mores have been consumed and boat rides on the lake were enjoyed.  Here is my Saturday wrap up of my favorite recipes and printables.  Great ideas to put away for next year.
